Safety & Trust
Safety FAQ
Quick, authoritative answers to common questions about Hepi's safety, permissions, and operational model.
Installation and Core Safety
Is Hepi safe to install?
Yes. Hepi is a standard Windows desktop application. We prioritize system stability by using hard technical boundaries and a “Safety First” architecture. We recommend always keeping the app updated to ensure you have the latest security patches and detection logic.
Does Hepi modify Safe Exam Browser’s source code?
No. Hepi never modifies SEB’s source files, installation directory, or permanent configuration. All interactions occur purely in your computer’s temporary system memory and are completely cleared once the session ends.
Permissions and Access
Why does Hepi require Administrator access?
Administrator privileges are necessary for Advanced SEB Integration. Specifically, Hepi needs these rights to:
- Apply in-memory patches to prevent SEB from closing Hepi.
- Manage and switch between virtual Windows desktops.
- Implement low-level input handling for Ghost Mode.
Standard chat and AI features do not require Administrator rights.
Does Meeting Assistant always need my microphone?
No. Hepi offers a “System Audio Only” mode that captures internal sounds (like a video call) without requiring microphone access. You only need to grant microphone permissions if you want to use voice-based AI interaction or record your own voice during a meeting.
Data and Privacy
What data is sent online?
Only the context you explicitly provide is sent to AI providers (like Google Gemini). This includes:
- Text questions you type.
- Screen regions you capture.
- Images you upload.
- Audio streams during active Meeting or Live Assistant sessions.
Local settings, app preferences, and window positions stay entirely on your device.
Does Hepi train AI models on my data?
No. Hepi uses enterprise-grade AI APIs that do not use your private captures or conversations for model training. Your data is used exclusively to generate the immediate response you requested.
Reliability and Testing
Why is it important to test SEB features in advance?
Safe Exam Browser is a highly restrictive environment that varies by version and Windows configuration. Testing in advance confirms that your Administrator rights, plan entitlement, and Hepi version are all compatible with your specific exam environment.
